Overall score for the 2021 Dodge Charger
Consumer Reports gave the 2021 Dodge Charger an overall score of 79. The score puts it ahead of the 2021 Chrysler 300 but the Charger ranks below the newest Toyota Avalon and Nissan Maxima.
CR calls the Charger "brash and bold" and said that the model has evolved to become "a fully developed and satisfying car." The car has high scores for reliability, road test, and predicted owner satisfaction.
CR praised the Charger's power and sophistication. The car offers a smooth eight-speed automatic engine, a high-quality infotainment system, and a comfortable interior. The Charger has a macho image but it’s also refined and luxurious.
The review also notes that while the Charger is a large car, it handles surprisingly well. That might be appealing to drivers who want a roomier vehicle, but not a clunky one.
While the 2021 Dodge Charger gets a generally positive review from CR, the car has a few drawbacks. Most notably, the model lacks the option to pair all-wheel drive with the V8 engine.
The V8 option seems to be one of the big appeals for the newest Charger. According to the report, it adds a level of excitement that can't be matched by the V6. Many drivers would want both the power of a V8 engine and the agility that all-wheel drive offers, so this may be disappointing for some consumers.
Other minor complaints include the fact that the window design somewhat limits visibility, a slightly complicated interface for the infotainment system, and outdated door handles.
