finally made the official announcement that it will offer a
manual transmission on its
2023 GR Supra
.
A manual transmission for the Supra has been rumored for years. Toyota finally unveiled that an all-new, specially designed six-speed manual transmission will be offered only on the Supra 3.0, 3.0 Premium, and a new limited edition A91-MT Edition (MT as in manual transmission).

Toyota engineers took an existing manual transmission housing, driveshaft, and gears, but removed some elements to reduce weight. They crafted a new large-diameter clutch to enhance performance, according to

Toyota also shorted the final drive ratio on the manual to 3.46, from 3.15 on the automatic, to "avoid a sluggish takeoff."
Other enhancements to the 2023 Toyota Supra manual versions
To accommodate the different driving style with a manual transmission, Toyota also made other modifications to the Supra.
The suspension will be tuned differently for the manual models, and the traction-control system was reprogrammed. Toyota noted as an example how this will help avoid slipping in first gear when driving in icy conditions.
Toyota also added a Hairpin+ function that makes those tight mountain turns a little more thrilling. The feature will allow a more "freewheel spin" when taking tight turns on a gradient of more than 5 percent. This means you'll be allowed to slip a little before the traction control takes over. The feature also includes an anti-roll system to avoid oversteering.
Toyota also adjusted the central, shifter console, moving slightly the drive mode selector, to allow room for the 200-gram gear knob. The lever ratio was kept low to allow shifting with minimal effort.
About the limited-edition Supra A91-MT
Toyota will produce only 500 A91-MTs for the U.S. market, fueling what will likely be a huge demand.
The A91-MT will boast cognac leather seats, special red "Supra" badging on the exterior, and an Alcantara gear knob to ensure a consistent, firm grip during extended racing. Red painted brake calipers and strut braces also are available to match the badging.
The A91-MT will come in two exclusive colors: Matte White or CU Later Gray. The 19-inch wheels will dazzle in a new Frozen Gunmetal.
A 12-speaker JBL sound system will round out the A91-MT super features, though it also will be available in the 3.0 Premium.
Toyota has yet to announce pricing for the 2023 GR Supra or whether the manual transmission will add to the cost. The 2022 GR Supra 3.0 started at $51,890 with the 3.0 Premium at $55.040.

estimates the prices for 2023 to be at $53,000 for the Supra 3.0, $57,000 for the Premium 3.0 and $65,000 for the A91-MT.
